Lap record for Charlie on Silverstone Grand prix circuit

Charlie Butler-Henderson found his way to the podium once again in the third round of the MINI Challenge UK series, around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit (13th-14th June).

Despite facing difficult weather conditions and fierce competition throughout the weekend, Charlie fought back to secure two podium finishes and a new MINI Challenge lap record.

Heavy rain at the start of the weekend made things interesting out on track. A wet opening race added to the spectacle, as Charlie battled the odds to salvage a strong top 10 finish.

After being collected by a rival, Charlie found himself hurtling towards the barrier at 85mph. After managing to save a heavy impact, he wrestled his way back into the top 10 from 12th place to salvage useful points towards his title charge.

After claiming the third fastest lap from race one, a third place start for race two gave Charlie a strong chance of reaching the podium. A commanding drive saw him reach second place before being edged back to third in time for the chequered flag.

A reverse grid for the final outing saw Charlie line up fourth. A speedy getaway saw him sneak into second place before being muscled back to sixth.

Before long Charlie had found his way back to third place, before briefly slotting into second once more. Fierce competition amongst the top three saw an entertaining ending to the final race, as the trio battled for supremacy, including a dicey manoeuvre with a set of backmarkers. Despite the competition, Charlie once again collected a podium finish to claim third place, together with a new lap record around the impressive Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

The next round of the MINI Challenge UK series will take place at Brands Hatch, for the Mini Festival, during 27th-28th June.

“This year just keeps getting better and better. The weather conditions in the first race definitely made things difficult, but to collect three strong results, including two more podium finishes and a new lap record is a fantastic feeling.

“Once again I owe a massive thank you to the Oakfield Motorsport team. I am still struggling with budget, but I’m determined to work hard and continue in our bid for championship success. Onwards and upwards from here.”
